Tuesday 29th - bike ***** - Around Felixstowe including cuppa at Levington – cloudy with light rain :(.

After a spell of cold strong northerly winds where we hardly left the house it was good to get out for a walk along the beach at Felixstowe yesterday, even managed to collect some beach coal for our open fire and planned to get out early for a breakfast bike ride today as the forecast looked OK especially with light winds. Woke this morning to a gloomy day but decided to go anyway as we haven’t been on the bikes for a week so made a flask packed a nutty breakfast bar and set off down to the prom here in Felixstowe. It’s always nice to be out first thing even on a dull day as we turned into the docks. We had to wait for a train at out first level crossing, in fact the trains were very busy today and we saw several! The tree lined route down to Loompit Lake was as nice as ever, quiet too but no deer. There was a couple camping on the foreshore in Levington bay, rather them than us as it was feeling pretty damp! Loompit was covered in swans and the tide was high in the River Orwell. At the marina we bumped into windsurfing mate Jamie and congratulated him on the news that he will be a father next year and then onto our seat by the marina entrance. The light rain soon started so we did not stay very long and set off on the inland route across farmland and had the highlight of the trip when we spotted 30 deer and a hare in the field, the first time we had seen a large group in ages! As usual they were a bit jumpy and ended up running off across a field of cabbages but actually ended up back where they started from! But were very entertaining:) It was unpleasant biking in the rain and in the end were glad to get home and had porridge for dinner before heading to an old friend for a cuppa and cake!
